Welcome to 2009

Happy New Year!

After a fairly extensive hiatus from updates thanks to coursework deadlines, form-filling and obligatory Christmas partying Friends Vs Records is back with a vengeance (or at least a few extra hours sleep under its belt). Massive thanks to all those who placed pre-orders for the Dinosaur Pile Up single - unfortunately due to a massive problem at the pressing plant in Germany the single had to be delayed several times, but the vinyl have finally arrived at FvsR HQ and are looking super sweet. If you haven’t received yours yet be assured they’ll be with you super soon.

If you haven’t got hold of this incredible single yet (or any of the other great records we put out last year) head along to the store, where we’ll hook you up with the finest music available. You can also get hold of all our releases on the iTunes store.

Loads of stuff to look forward to in the coming year, including the debut single from recent signings Soft Toy Emergency, I Kno U Want It, the pre-order for which will be going up in the very near future.

Friends will also be announcing the two newest members of the family over the coming weeks, including its very first venture into the world of albums. Exciting stuff. Watch this space for more updates.

Finally, to leave you with something pretty freakin’ cool, check out this - the video for the Soft Toy Emergency single. Awesome!

The Clik Clik Are No More

In very sad news indeed, the Clik Clik announced today that they have decided to call it a day. This is what the band had to say:

“Hey guys,

After much fun and laughter has been had with The Clik Clik we’ve decided to call it a day. We’ve all had a great time but just feel that it’s time to try something different. You’ve all been amazing fans to us and we hope you’ve enjoyed the ride because we certainly have!

We’ll be in contact with you all soon about what our future plans
are but until then, thank you very much!

Stefan, Maya, Henry & Dru - The Clik Clik x”

Obviously here at FvsR we’re totally gutted about this decision, but hope that you’ve all enjoyed the two singles we’ve put out for this band and will join us in both mourning the passing of a truly awesome pop band and wishing all the members of the Clik Clik the best of luck in whatever they go on to do. Watch this space.

Zane Lowe loves Dinosaur Pile Up. Official.

There’s been a bit of an absence whilst I’ve been away with Soft Toy Emergency in Liverpool. The new tunes are sounding pretty amazing, and you can download a different one every day this week. Go along to their Myspace to get yourself involved.

In other amazing news, Dinosaur Pile Up have been Zane Lowe’s single of the week all this week. You can go along to his website to ch-ch-check it out on listen again.  You can also drop him an e-mail at zane.lowe@bbc.co.uk to tell him exactly how much you loved it and want to hear it again. Sweet.

What’s more, DPU have been a featured band in NME’s radar this week. Get to your local newstand and pick it up. Matt & co will also be on tour throughout November, go along to the gigs section to find out where you can go and check him out live.

Lights. Train Ticket. Action

Busy busy times afoot at FvsR HQ right now.

To begin with, very excitingly check out Data.Select.Party on the pilot for Zane Lowe’s new TV show Sooner. Shot in the balmy days of late August they play No Girls Allowed as well as a couple of new tunes in the salubrious surroundings of Air Studios. Yeah, that’s mother humping Air Studios. It sounds great and you can see me looking sweaty behind Zane Lowe. Classy shit.

Dinosaur Pile Up have just announced a string of new live dates - get along to the gigs section of the site to see where you can check them out on the road, including some super cool northern dates with the Kills.

Also, there’s a review on the amazing Cardiff zine Kruger of our show at In The City this year. You can also see more snaps of this sort of quality.

Pip Is Grumpy

Hot.

Finally, I’m going to be spending a lot of time on the road this week, so if you’ll be in any one of London, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool drop me a line. Also, if you’re in Liverpool on Friday night get along to this. It’s going to be mahoosive.

Since U Been Gone

I fucking love Mark Ronson. I fucking love Florence (of & The Machine fame). This is pretty sweet. Check out today’s daily download too to get my favourite remix of Ronson’s incredible cover of Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.
